Essential Eight Assessment Course

Description

The Essential Eight Assessment Course has been designed by the Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) and is delivered in partnership by TAFEcyber.

The Essential Eight Assessment Course uses a blend of specialist knowledge, experience and hands-on technical training to enable cyber security and ICT professionals to understand the ACSC’s Essential Eight Assessment Guidance Package and the Essential Eight Maturity Model.

These skills and knowledge will enable participants to effectively assess and improve their organisation’s cyber security posture. The Essential Eight Assessment Course will help cyber and ICT professionals: . Understand the intent and application of ACSC’s Essential Eight mitigation strategies. . Learn how to use ACSC-designed tools. . Accurately test the implementation of the Essential Eight security controls. . Develop an accurate an actionable assessment report including defining an action plan to address any weaknesses. Upon completion of the Essential Eight Assessment Course, participants will be equipped to effectively assess their organisation’s implementation of the Essential Eight security controls using the Essential Eight Assessment Guidance Package and the Essential Eight Maturity Model. In turn, participants will also understand how to develop actionable steps to improve their organisation’s cyber security posture. Participants will receive a certificate upon successfully passing the exam.   • Entry Requirements
    Applicants seeking entry into the Essential Eight Assessment Course must possess either:

    1. A Certificate IV qualification in a technical ICT discipline or greater and a minimum of 2 years of experience in a technical ICT role.

    OR

    2. Four years of experience in a technical ICT role.

    Participants who enroll in the course are further encouraged to ensure that they are familiar with the following technologies prior to course commencement:
    . Microsoft Active Directory, PowerShell, and Group Policy; and
    . Operation and theory of vulnerability scanners; and
    . Basic Networking.

    Note: Applicants will be vetted to ensure they meet the entry requirements, including verification of their background and experience. You will be required to provide evidence for verification before officially registering into the course.   • "Assessment Methodology
    Participants will complete a supervised, open-book exam at the conclusion of the course. Participants may consult internet resources and are required to use tools and techniques to execute specific tasks on the target machines to answer some of the exam questions.

    To maintain the integrity of the exam process, each participant's work must be their own. Collusion with other participants is strictly forbidden. Any infringement of these conditions will result in the participant's disqualification from receiving the completion certificate and they will be ineligible to retake the assessment.

    A minimum score of 80 per cent is required to pass the exam. Participants falling short of the 80 percent pass mark may be offered an opportunity to re-sit the exam within a maximum of 3 months, without having to re-enrol in the Essential Eight Assessment Course.

    Certificate of Completion
    Upon successful completion of the course and exam, participants will be awarded the ""Certificate of Completion of the Essential Eight Assessment Course"".

    Participants that successfully complete the course and pass the exam must not state or imply that they are endorsed by ASD or ACSC to conduct Essential Eight assessments. This includes presenting themselves as ‘ASD Essential Eight Assessors’ or ‘ACSC Essential Eight Assessors’ or any other statement that would imply ASD endorsement."

Short Course Delivery Locations Some short courses can provide accreditation for industry-specific registration, while others merely provide skills and knowledge in the subject area. Concession prices are available for some courses.
